Macron to become first Western European leader to visit post-Assad Syria

French President Emmanuel Macron ​will visit ‌Syria to discuss ways to ​strengthen bilateral ​relations and issues of ⁠mutual interest, ​the Syrian presidency has announced, in what would be the first visit by a Western European head of state since Ahmed al-Sharaa came to power following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024.
