FIFA closes ranks round Infantino amid mounting leadership crisis

European football's governing body (UEFA) on Thursday reaffirmed its boycott of the World Cup despite FIFA's apology a day earlier for "errors" over its now-abandoned plan to sell stakes in the tournament to private investors. The proposal, championed by FIFA president Gianni Infantino, has plunged world football's governing body into its biggest governance crisis in years and raised fresh questions about his future as president.
