The Kogi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two of its officers attached to the Ajaokuta Police Division, Amos Yusuf and Grace Onimisi.

Reports indicate that Amos Yusuf allegedly shot his female colleague, Grace Onimisi, dead while they were on night duty before subsequently taking his own life with an AK-47 rifle.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Command, Saliu Oyiza Afusat, said the incident occurred on Friday, October 23.

She explained that both officers were immediately rushed to separate medical facilities, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

"Their remains have been deposited at the mortuary of ASCO Hospital," she said.

Afusat added that one AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered from the scene of the incident.

She further disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID for an in-depth investigation.

While reports suggest that the two officers were lovers and may have had a misunderstanding before the incident, the police command urged the public not to jump to conclusions.

"The circumstances and motive remain subjects of investigation, and the Command will not speculate on matters yet to be established," the statement added.
