US President Donald Trump has renewed his attack on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, alleging that she used a different name to get elected and sworn into the House of Representatives.
Trump made the allegation in a post on his Truth Social account on Friday, claiming that Omar’s name was Ilhan Nur Said Elmi rather than Ilhan Omar.
He also linked the alleged name to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the man Omar was accused of marrying, amid longstanding allegations that he was her brother.
Trump questioned Omar’s previous response to the allegation, in which she reportedly said, “Not to my knowledge,” when asked whether she had married her brother.
The US president described the alleged use of a different name as fraud and called on Omar to resign from Congress immediately.
“Therefore, because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress,” Trump wrote.
He also urged House Speaker Mike Johnson to act on what he described as the Democratic Party's concession of Omar’s seat.
However, Trump’s post did not provide evidence establishing that Omar used a false name to secure her election or that she had admitted to fraud.
Omar, a Democrat representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, has faced repeated attacks from Trump over her political positions and background.
